A Fish Story

Graphite and Adobe Photoshop

The illustration is a visual interpretation of a nursery rhyme “A Fish Story,” suggesting an unsuccessful relationship between a man and a woman.

One, two, three, four, five
Once I caught a fish alive.
Six, seven, eight, nine, ten
Then I let it go again.
Why did I let it go?
Because it bit my finger so.
Which finger did it bite?
The little finger on the right.

A cow

Several years ago in a mountain, I saw a cow chewing and swallowing a whole plastic bag thrown by poor and horrible tourists. The cow then came to my dream and told me that she really wished the one who threw the plastic bag could have a chance to taste it as well.

Monster of the Waste

This is a very playful piece that I did. The concept is still serious though. I am trying to convey the idea that the general life style of all people in the modern world do have created a huge burden to the earth, our living environment. While we are spending money and consuming all kinds of products that we think help create, for ourselves, a better life, we are also consuming the health of the planet. People tend to solve problems by the easiest way they can have which pretty often would be just spending money to have more products or services that will work instead of giving a little more our own physical or mental labor to solve or even prevent those problems.

This piece is very experimental. The playful part of this work is the multiple techniques employed, including watercolor on white clayboard, watercolor on Yupo paper, pen and ink, digital editing and printing, transferring with blender marker, collage and oil pastel for final retouch. I really enjoyed in doing this work.
